I Garagisti di Sorgono 2021 Monica di Sardegna ‘Murru’ Sardegna
Close your eyes, take a sip, where are you? Chianti? Barbaresco? Nope, you are in the hills of Mandrolisai in Sardinia! Not known for their subtlety, this is a taunt little glass of Sardinian joy from Bordeaux-inspired winemakers.
Lets head to central Sardegna for Garagisti di Sorgono, a collaborative effort by 4 friends who seek to emulate the bold and juicy ‘garage wines’ of Bordeaux. They work exclusively with native grapes, all of which are grown in exceptionally old vineyards. This is their 100% Monica, a medium-bodied aromatic red imbued with a range of aroma from peppercorns to wild cherries, to a haunting herbal note found somewhere in the glass. The alcohol is a well integrated 15% and lifts the wine without leaving your palate hot. 100% Sardegna! The ‘Murra’ is begging for flank steak with rosemary potatoes and Florentine cauliflower.
