This Langhe Nebbiolo is like a mini cooper outfitted with nitro, seemingly light and easy at first glance, and then it roars into gear when a little oxygen is introduced. Add in extra time on the skins (20 days for a Langhe Nebbiolo!) and time spent in large casks and we have a more precise and focused Nebbiolo with enough elbow grease for heavier proteins.

Flogliati is a winemaking estate within the village of Castiglione Falletto in Barolo, Piemonte. Its roots date back to the 1800’s, when local legend Spirito Zocca purchased the estate with the goal of elevating the status of Barolo into a wine of prestige. Although his dream would arrive a century later, the land remained a landmark for grape-growing. It was reacquired in 1950 by a local grape grower Guido Fogliati, who renamed the estate and spent years selling his grapes to top wineries. In 2016, grandchildren Annalisa and Guido became the owners and immediately converted the land to organic viticulture and built a winery to produce wine for themselves. Under the watchful eye of Nebbiolo savant and star oenologist Gianluca Colombo, Fogliate makes Barolo with pure fruit and a real sense of place exhibited in the glass.
